Safety situation in Ecuador
As I traveler in Ecuador for the last 4 months and a volunteer at Ilinizas Moutain Lodge, I can explain more about the safety situation here for those having doubts. It is true that the situation worsened compared to the last few years when it was one of the safest and most tranquil countries of Latin America. At the moment, it is strongly discouraged to go close to the border with Colombia, in the region of Esmeraldas, to be very careful in the city of Guayaquil, and careful in the city of Quito. For the rest of Ecuador, the situation is much better. There is absolutely no crime in the countryside like in the village of El Chaupi which is very peaceful. Accompanied by a guide, nothing can happen. Even if you are by yourself in other places of Ecuador, as long as you are not alone in an empty street by night, everything should be okay. A tip I can give is to always ask the locals, the situation can vary locally and they’ll be very happy to help you out 😊
